Polarkonsult has been awarded a contract with the Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA) to provide maritime technical consultancy in connection with the planned conversion and upgrade of the NCA’s vessel OV Utvær. The objective is to implement green technology that reduces the vessel’s greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to more sustainable maritime operations.

AN EARLY PHASE
The Norwegian Coastal Administration is in an early phase of the project, which will run toward 2026. Polarkonsult will be part of the NCA’s project team, while also working independently on technical and economic assessments of relevant technology solutions. These evaluations will be based on the vessel’s operational profile, with environmental accounting forming a key basis for decision-making.

A battery-electric energy solution is considered a particularly relevant option. A substantial part of the assignment will involve preparing technical specifications and drawings as the basis for a forthcoming public procurement process. Polarkonsult has extensive experience from similar maritime projects, in-depth knowledge of public procurement procedures, and strong familiarity with OV Utvær and OV Skomvær.

If the Norwegian Coastal Administration decides to proceed with procurement, Polarkonsult will also assist in carrying out the public procurement process.

The assignment has an upper financial framework of NOK 1.3 million. Polarkonsult’s project manager, Arne Markussen, looks forward to a project of significant professional and environmental importance.
