Zeppelin Power Norway continue the strong collaboration with Østensjø Rederi on their next-generation offshore tug to be built at Gondan Shipyard, contributing to the development of new solutions and new industry standards—with a vessel that will become a new benchmark for bollard pull relative to its size.

The delivery consists of a total of six engine/generator sets:

  • 2xCat 3516E main engines (3000 bkW each)
  • 2xCat 3512E variable speed generator sets (1901 bkW each)
  • 1xCat C9.3 harbour generator
  • 1xCat C4.4E emergency generator

HIGH EFFICIENCY
The tug will operate with high efficiency thanks to the two Cat 3512E generator sets running at variable speed to optimize fuel consumption, reduce noise, and minimize emissions. When maximum pulling power is required, the two 3516E engines connect directly to the shafts, delivering immense power within a very compact footprint.

The newly developed Cat 3516E engines, equipped with six sequential turbochargers, provide instant response across the entire speed range and are designed specifically for the tugboat segment. The generator sets feature double insulation for maximum noise and vibration

reduction, meeting Østensjø’s ambition for the quietest possible crew facilities. All engines are fitted with SCR for exhaust cleaning and are prepared for biofuel and future conversion to methanol.

POWERFUL
Delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2028. This will be Østensjø’s largest and most powerful tug ever, further strengthening the company’s offshore towage capacity.

“We are very pleased with the trust Østensjø has shown by allowing Zeppelin to contribute to a project that sets new standards for efficiency, sustainability, and performance. This vessel will become a reference point in the industry,” says Bernt Eidsvik, Sales Manager at Zeppelin Power.
