Contract for Next-Generation Hybrid AWH Vessel for FDA
Finnsnes Dykk & Anleggservice AS (FDA) has awarded Zamakona Yards Bilbao a contract for the construction of a new Anchor Handling Subsea Vessel (AWH), with Sirius Design & Integration selected as design and system integration partner.
The vessel will be built in Spain and delivered under Norwegian flag, classed by DNV, with scheduled delivery in Q2 2028.
The newbuild is based on Sirius’ AWH design and is tailored for multi-purpose operations, including anchor handling, offshore fish farming, pipelaying, subsea work, ROV operations, and a flexible deck for special purpose operations. The vessel will be equipped with hybrid diesel-electric propulsion and battery energy storage, enabling reduced fuel consumption and emissions, and will be prepared for operation on HVO fuel.
At approximately 50 metres in length and 14 metres beam, the vessel is designed to deliver a bollard pull of minimum 50 tonnes and a service speed of around 12 knots.
The deck layout includes capacity for cable operations with a 250-ton turntable, while a dedicated ROV hangar with launch and recovery system supports subsea operations. The vessel will also be fitted with three cranes, including heavy-lift capability, and will feature dynamic positioning for precise offshore work.
DEVELOPED IN CLOSE COOPERATION
The project has been developed in close cooperation between the shipowner, shipyard, designer and suppliers, with a focus on operational flexibility and efficiency.
Keneth Larsen, FDA, says the vessel represents an important addition to the company’s fleet:
"We have had a strong cooperation with both Sirius and Zamakona in the development phase, and we look forward to taking delivery of a modern and capable vessel tailored to our operations."
Luis Magro, Managing Director at Zamakona Yards, says the contract strengthens the yard’s position in the Service & Subsea segment:
"We are pleased to secure this project with FDA and to collaborate with Sirius. Together, we will deliver a high-quality vessel."
Christian Søvik, EVP Sales & Marketing at Sirius Design & Integration, says the contract confirms the company’s position in advanced vessel design and innovative hybrid solutions:
"We are proud to be selected by FDA and look forward to continuing the strong cooperation with both the owner and the yard."
The project is expected to generate activity for a number of equipment suppliers and further strengthen collaboration across the maritime value chain.
