Vard to convert seismic research vessel for Sanco Shipping
Vard has signed a contract with Norway-based Sanco Shipping for the extensive conversion of the Seismic Research Vessel Sanco Sailor into a Seismic Source Vessel. This project marks an important collaboration between two companies that share a strong belief in the future potential of this market.
Sanco Shipping strengthens its market position with the contracting of PGS Apollo, now renamed Sanco Sailor. Following the takeover of the vessel on 31 July 2025, Sanco Sailor (length 106.6 m, breadth 19.2 m) sailed directly to Vard Langsten.
The scope of work includes significant structural modifications, upgrades to existing seismic equipment, and the installation of a DP2 system. These upgrades will enhance the vessel’s operational capabilities and support Sanco’s position in the seismic and offshore markets.
MOST COMPETITIVE
Tommy Bøe, CTO at Sanco Shipping, says:
– We did an extensive tendering between Norwegian yards and were glad to see that Vard Langsten was the most competitive. Based on their vast experience both with newbuilds and conversions, we are confident that Vard Langsten will meet our high expectations.
Wilhelm Eggesbø, SVP Aftersales at Vard, adds:
– his project is key for Vard in supporting an important client while applying the high level of competence required for such specialized work. It also contributes to further strengthening Vard’s position in the ship repair and conversion market.
STRONG EXPERTISE
Odd Henrik Iversen, SVP Yard Director at Vard Langsten, underlines:
– This project showcases the strong expertise and capabilities of Vard Langsten. Delivering a complex conversion of this scale is a clear demonstration of our team’s commitment, technical skills, and ability to create value for our clients.
